Alan Thurlow FCCA

At the Royal Liberty School 1957-1964

After attending the Royal Liberty School, Alan joined the United African Company (a subsidiary of Unilever) in London. During his time there Alan commenced training and qualification to be an accountant through the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants as well as completing two postings to Zambia.

On completion of his qualifications, Alan moved into the world of insurance, joining Lyon Lohr, the insurance broker for Lloyd's, as a management accountant. Since then, during a long a varied career in finance, he has also spent time as a Financial Controller for ROR (a design company) working on a large interiors project in Abu Dhabi before returning to the city to work for Edgar Hamilton (later Sterling Hamilton Wright) where he remained until leaving after 13 years as Group Finance Director in 2003.

Alan continues to work as a consultant to many clients within the financial sector.

"Royal Liberty School exposed me to a number of different subjects and interests. It was only after leaving that I fully appreciated this. The friends and memories I made there I will cherish for life.

At RLS I learned stamina and perseverance, both of which have served me well in my later career.

When at a career crossroad, I try not to worry whether I am taking the right path - instead I try to put all my positive energy into making that decision work."
